Totley War Memorial WW1 1914-1918 | Index

In October 2011 Totley History Group External published a small book about the ten men from Totley who gave their lives during the Great War.

The book had a Chapter about each of the soldiers and two additional chapters. The first chapter set the scene by trying to give an idea of daily life in the village on the outbreak of war in August 1914. A concluding chapter "They Also Served" remembered the many other young men from Totley who also served in the armed forces during this conflict and included photographs of the Rolls of Honour from Totley Rise Methodist Church and Dore and Totley United Reformed Church.

The Project Group is still doing research on the soldiers and welcomes any information that you may have about any of the men or their families.

Photographs of Tom Fisher, Hedley Bishop, James Parker, and Charles and Bernard Turner would be particularly welcome. Many of them were pupils at Totley All Saints School between 1891 and 1907 so they may be on school photographs from this period.
